Which Foods to Avoid with Kidney Disease?

The kidney is one of the most crucial organs in our body. It is the central processing unit that removes toxins from the body and is responsible for the absorption of water and other minerals. Nowadays, even two kidneys are not enough to support our unhealthy eating habits. It is always considered to take ayurvedic kidney treatment. Here we will discuss some of the foods to avoid to keep the kidneys healthy and strong.

Pickles- In India, pickles are something we consume every day. The answer to why pickles are not good for kidney health is an excess amount of vegetable oil and salt (sodium). Pickles are high in sodium, so you need to control your sodium intake to have healthy kidneys.

Tomatoes- Tomatoes contain more than 300 mg of potassium. Lycopene and other components found in tomatoes can help you develop better skin and health, but the potassium content can affect your entire kidney system. For better kidneys, it is always advisable to consume tomatoes in cooked form. Potassium is simply broken down by cooking. Excess tomatoes can even cause poisoning in the blood.

Potatoes- Potatoes are also one of the important foods in Indian cuisine. When consumed in excess, it can have a negative impact on kidney health. As mentioned above, both sodium and potassium play an important role in the countercurrent mechanism. Potatoes are rich in potassium, so eat them in moderation.

Brown rice- Brown rice is a whole grain and is rich in phosphorus and potassium. It has extra vitamins that normal rice doesn't have. Intake of vitamins helps you grow more efficiently. But when it comes to kidney health, brown rice is not good to be consumed. A bowl of brown rice contains more than 80 mg of potassium, and eating too much brown rice can be bad for your kidneys.

Oranges- Oranges are one of the best sources of vitamin C in our body. Vitamins are essential for the human system. Any excess can increase potassium levels in your body. A large orange can contain more than 200 mg of potassium. Excessive consumption of oranges should be strictly prohibited to ensure good kidney health.

Canned foods- Like processed foods, salt is added to canned foods, including soups, vegetables, and beans, to preserve and extend their shelf life. While convenient and low-cost, these canned foods contain high amounts of sodium, which can affect the health of the kidneys.

Avocados- Avocados are known as a superfood, but people with kidney disease should avoid them. Avocados are high in potassium, around 700 mg. Therefore, it is recommended that you limit your potassium intake and avoid avocados in all forms of the diet.

Dairy products- Taking too much dairy products build up calcium in the bones of those with kidney disease, making them weak and prone to fractures. Instead of dairy products, you can opt for almond milk, which is low in potassium, phosphorus, and protein, during a kidney diet.

Follow a Better Healthy Renal Diet

A proper kidney diet contains no more than 2,000 mg of sodium and potassium per day. Emphasis should be placed on consuming small amounts of sodium, phosphorus, and potassium. Getting high-quality protein is also important. Moreover, this type of diet acts as the best kidney failure treatment in ayurveda.

It is important to do various physical activities like yoga, exercise, and meditation to get the best result from Ayurvedic kidney disease treatment and kidney diet plans.
